Manager, Vehicle Pool
Operations and Maintenance
The University of Alberta is taking positive steps to create a more environmentally-friendly vehicle fleet. Four hybrid delivery vans and two hybrid medium delivery trucks were purchased in 2009, making UAlberta the first educational institution with hybrid mail trucks. The university’s vehicle pool is committed to replacing its aging fleet vehicles as required, with hybrid or ultra fuel-efficient models wherever a feasible option exists. In addition, all vehicles used on campus are kept maintained for optimal efficiency, and multiple van and truck trips on campus have been eliminated by providing a shuttle van for trades groups to move around campus.
Buildings and Grounds Services uses electric and solar-powered electric grounds carts to transport staff around the grounds.
The university’s vehicle fleet is using E10 gasoline year round and B5 diesel up to 6 months of the year. To date, a reliable source of E85 fuel is not available.
