A brief description of the guidelines for franchisees:

The University of Arizona Dining Services cannot legally require the franchised locations to maintain and adopt sustainable practices Ultimately, each franchised location is dictated by its parent company in regards to their sustainable initiatives; however, franchisees are encouraged to participate in University of Arizona waste reduction and recycling initiatives. For example, StarBucks and Chick-Fil-A are active participants in Student for Sustainability's Compost Cats pre-consumer waste program.
