A list and brief descriptions of the continuing education courses that address sustainability:

Former Fayetteville mayor, Dan Coody and his wife, Deborah will share their construction materials and methods which resulted in an energy efficient home earning a negative 43 Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating. This all solar electric home generates more power than it consumes. Tour the home and see how living comfortably at an affordable cost can be done without impacting the environment. Transportation and lunch will be on your own. Participants will meet at a central location (like Penguin Ed’s on Archibald Yell) in between the 2 sessions to share insight with the second group and ask questions of the first group.

Does the institution have at least one sustainability-themed certificate program through its continuing education or extension department?:
Yes

A brief description of the certificate program:

The UA Bioenergy and Sustainable Technology Graduate Certificate program is designed for working professionals who hold an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree who want to expand their knowledge in their discipline and for students who are planning to work in this field when they graduate.

It is also intended to benefit traditional graduate programs through additional course availability. Students may take courses without pursuing the B.S.T. certificate to strengthen their plan of study in conventional graduate degree programs..

The program serves the needs of emerging “green” energy industries and provides post-baccalaureate educational opportunities for industry practitioners who do not require a full graduate degree program. Private industry actively recruits individuals with specific training in sustainability, biomass supply chain management, and sustainable energy conversion technologies.

Faculty from four institutions within the Sustainability Consortium, who have expertise in this discipline, teach the courses.

Year the certificate program was created:
2,009
