ChematixTM, a chemical management program, is being used to facilitate the sharing of surplus chemicals, negating the need for one lab to procure a chemical another lab may have in excess.
Environment, Health and Safety oversees the collection, processing and reporting of hazardous waste materials to meet regulatory requirements including Alberta Environment’s hazardous waste legislation. Biomedical, radioactive and chemicals used for teaching and research are collected for pick-up on a weekly basis and treated in Canada.
ChematixTM is currently being deployed, a chemical management program to:
1. Facilitate chemical inventory management, surplus distribution and hazardous materials disposal;
2.Meet Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements for the provision of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS);
3. Assist the University of Calgary in meeting or exceeding all regulatory requirements for protecting human health and the environment;
4.Assist Emergency Responders to identify hazards associated with chemical, biological and radioactive materials, and to safely respond to incidents and accidents on campus.
