A brief description of how the strategic plan or amendment addresses the environmental dimensions of sustainability:

The Institutional Sustainability Plan (ISP) is a framework for developing and acting upon the University of Calgary’s commitment to sustainability. The Plan addresses a holistic and strategic approach to campus sustainability including teaching and learning, research, administration and campus operations. Recognizing that the University of Calgary is engaged in a number of activities that support sustainability, the ISP provides an institutional wide understanding of strategic priorities for sustainability and is intended to support effective and collaborative planning at administrative, faculty and business unit levels.

The ISP includes sustainability related goals, performance indicators, and multi-year targets for each performance category, an initial set of key actions in more than 17 areas and defines accountabilities for each vice president. The performance categories also correlate to the Talloires Declaration and the imagineCALGARY Plan for Long Range Urban Sustainability thus prompting advancement of these institutional commitments.

Passed by the Board of Governors in April 2011, the Institutional Sustainability Plan is now one of the suite of institutional documents shaping academic and business planning and governance.

Sustainability was confirmed again as one of the University of Calgary's core principles in Project NEXT, a community strategic planning process launched following the appointment of our new President, Elizabeth Cannon. Central to Project NEXT was the engagement of thousands of students, faculty, staff and external community members to define a shared vision for the university.
