Total number of employees working on campus (including contractors):
4,782

Number of employees (including contractors) that the institution ensures earn sustainable compensation:
4,452

A brief description of how the institution ensures that its lowest-paid workers (including contractors, if applicable) receive sustainable compensation:

The U of C has not formally evaluated or defined a sustainable wage level as defined above but many initiatives at both the local and national level have proposed such a standard. Vibrant Communities Calgary (VCC), a local organization, defines a living wage to be $12.25 (plus benefits) or $13.50 (in lieu of benefits). The wage is based on Statistics Canada 2008 Low Income Cut-Off (LICO).

Benchmarking against this standard, at least 4452 of the university’s 4782 staff earn at or above a sustainable wage level.

The most recent year total compensation for the institution’s lowest-paid workers (including contractors, if applicable) was evaluated to ensure that it was sustainable:
2,011
