Does the institution use non-potable water (e.g., harvested rainwater or graywater) for irrigation and/or other applications?:
Yes

A brief description of the source of non-potable water and how it is used:

Irvine Ranch Water District, the Independent Special District that serves UC Irvine (See http://www.irwd.com), provides the recycled water. Recycled water is a more technically accurate term that is replacing an older term “reclaimed.”
UCI has been using recycled water for irrigation since the 1960s, and recycled water is used to irrigate all main campus vegetation. Certain housing areas continue to use potable water for irrigation purposes. The faculty housing development on campus uses potable water on the privately owned portions of the development and recycled water on the common areas. A small administrative facility located about a mile north of the campus uses potable water for irrigation because recycled water is not available at the location.

Due to the difficulties and administrative costs of dual plumbing of facilities, the campus has elected not to pursue indoor use of recycled water.
