The campus owns, operates, and maintains, a combined-cycle combustion turbine and steam turbine generating plant with a gross maximum rating of 19 megawatts. See Notes section below.

Typically, the system operates with the majority of the steam being used for campus heating and process usage. The system is fired exclusively from natural gas.
The remainder of campus electricity not generated by the cogeneration facility is supplied through the Southern California Edison system. In 2012, UCI bought its commodity electricity service through Noble Americas. Noble Americas’ power content label listed 24% non-hydro renewable electricity.
