A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

This annual survey is conducted in the beginning of Spring Quarter each academic year. The entire student population was emailed the online survey and participation was incentivized with a prize drawing at the end. The survey was open from Friday, April 14, 2017 at 10:00am to Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 10:00am - a total of 16 days. Respondents selected which modes of transportation they used for a majority of their commute to work/class on campus.


The percentage of students that use each of the following modes as their primary means of transportation to get to and from campus::

Commute with only the driver in the vehicle (excluding motorcycles and scooters) 19.77
Walk, bicycle, or use other non-motorized means 47.08
