In 2008 the Chancellor convened a committee of 63 “to facilitate the implementation of sustainability initiatives supporting the UC President’s Policy for Green Building Design and Clean Energy Standards {now the UC Sustainability Policy 2011} and to develop a framework and approach and draft policy for accomplishing environmental goals at UCR, including sustainable operations, stewardship, compliance, and best practices.”

The Director of Sustainability is responsible for coordinating, initiating and directing all sustainability activities at the University of California Riverside. The director represents UCR on sustainability related issues within the UC system, regionally - City of Riverside Green Action planning committee, State - California Higher Education Sustainability Conference and National - Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education
