Does new student orientation include presentations, speakers, or skits that address sustainability and take place in large venues that most or all first-year students attend?:

At UCSB, the new student orientation prominently features the University’s sustainable movements. The new student orientation includes an on-campus tour that visits each of the LEED certified buildings. At each building, tour guides are instructed to explain the building's “green” features, as well as the University’s “Sustainability Points of Pride” - a list of 100 sustainable topics/ issues that UCSB addresses. By using signage and collaborating with Dining Services Campus Catering, orientation guides also enlighten new students about the University’s recycling programs and the overall goal of attaining zero waste by 2020. Orientation Programs, the department that oversees the new student orientation, also explains the University’s transition from paper documents to electronic copies. It provides new students with electronic copies of the UCSB Student Handbook, other informational flyers, and information about where students can access the University’s sustainable movements in full detail (sustainability.ucsb.edu).

As part of the information students recieve at orientation, they are directed to the sustainability website to "get involved." They can request to be part of specific teams working in any of the twelve functional areas.
