The Central Coast Sustainability Summit is an annual gathering that UCSB co-hosts and organizes in partnership between the Cities of Goleta, Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, the County of Santa Barbara, the Community Environmental Council. Last year (2015) marked the 5th annual summit, with a focus on energy and water. CCSS brings together local and regional government agencies, chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, campuses, utility companies and private industry, seeking to inspire and sustain action on complex environmental, economic and social issues in the region. This is done through several presentations and panels throughout the day and opportunities for wide-ranging discussions about potential solutions. Projects that are taken on and launched during the conference are meant to create deep and lasting changes that will be institutionalized long after the summit itself. UCSB contributes year round staff time, as well as approximately $1600 each year for the event, which began in Fall 2011 and has been ongoing since.
