A brief description of each certified dining hall or food service outlet, including the year the certification was achieved and/or renewed:

All of UCSB's dining commons were certified by the Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County (GBPSBC) in 2011. In order to receive certification from GBPSBC, the dining commons met a checklist of requirements which is divided into the following categories: Energy, Waste & Recycling, Pollution Prevention, Water Conservation, and Wastewater. Due to previous sustainable efforts and initiatives, the UCSB Dining Commons were beyond the minimum requirements needed for certification; the GBPSBC checklist program facilitated further significant reductions to their environmental impact and utility bills. Summit Cafe in Davidson Library is also in the process of becoming certified as a Green Business.
