A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

The parking and transportation department collects data on all parking permits sold. To determine the number of alternate modes of commuting the total parking passes purchased in a given quarter was divided by the total faculty reported. This calculation was performed for the 2016-17 year, which was the limit of the available data. The assumption was that if a faculty member did not purchase a parking pass their method of transportation was limited to: walk, bike, carpool, bus, shuttle, etc.
