A brief description of how the literacy assessment was developed and/or when it was adopted:

The Office of Sustainability collected examples of survey instruments being used by other schools to assess both student environmental literacy and their experience of campus culture as it relates to sustainability. These include Ohio State and the University of Maryland, with their ASK instrument; the annual survey American University conducts, and others. These instruments were adapted by the Office of Sustainability in cooperation with Institutional Research.


A brief description of how a representative sample was reached (if applicable) and how the assessment(s) were administered :

The survey is conducted and will be analyzed through the Office of Sustainability with assistance from UC’s Office of Institutional Research; the instrument delivering the survey will be Qualtrics. Students have a month in the fall (October 16-Nov 13) to respond. It will be sent to the entire student body and all faculty and staff.
