In the summer of 2009 (through 2011) the Sustainable Campus Program at Auraria Higher Education Center sponsored a three year contract with Renewable Choice Energy to offset 100% of the campus' electricity use with Renewable Energy Credits generated through the development of wind power programs through the western US. This purchase ranks the Auraria Campus in the top ten schools / universities in the EPA green power purchasers program. As part of this campus, UC Denver claims 33.6% (or 46,362 MMBtu) of this energy consumption, which it would otherwise pay for.
