A brief description of the institution’s employee community service initiatives:

Community Outreach is a program that prepares UConn students and participating faculty and staff to be active global citizens by engaging them in service activities that enhance the quality of life for both others and themselves. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles in service and operational functions; however, Community Outreach has a team of professional staff members and graduate assistants who support and advise students with community-service related issues, and act as liaisons with community based organizations.
Community Outreach staff provide resources and training to students in a variety of community service programs. These include, but are not limited to:
Jumpstart AmeriCorps, a national early education organization that partners college students and community volunteers with preschool children in low-income communities each school year to help them develop language and literacy skills.

Alternative Breaks, weekend or weeklong service-learning experiences designed to heighten participants’ awareness of critical social issues. They integrate service, reflection, and education, and focus on topics as varied as poverty, hunger, housing, healthcare, and disaster relief.

Community Service Days, Special Olympics Connecticut Events, MLK Day of Service, Spring Weekend, Give & Go, and other one-time service projects.
