A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the course inventory:

Total number of courses offered by the institution: report generated by the University's Institutional Reporting Office (Susan Sexton). Criteria for the report: 1) timeframe: Fall 2013 – Spring 2016; 2) cross-listed courses counted separately; 3) courses with multiple sections and in multiple terms counted as a single offering; 4) courses counted across all schools in the university; 5) offerings such as internships, independent studies, music ensembles, etc were not counted; 6) labs were counted as separate courses; 7) only courses taught were counted.

Number of Sustainability courses and courses that include sustainability: the same criteria were used as defined above for institutional data. In addtion, for sustainability criteria, a preliminary course inventory was prepared from HSI faculty and staff knowledge and from reviewing the course catalog. To discern whether the individual courses met the criteria, faculty were asked for syllabi, course outlines, and their evaluation of their course in relation to the criteria. Finally, department chairs were asked to review and correct a list of courses identified as sustainability courses or courses including sustainability in their departments. Response rate: 50% (13/28 departments)
