A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

The goal of the Green Office Initiative (GOI) is to help administrative and academic offices at the University of Dayton practice the Catholic, Marianist philosophy of working towards social justice and care for creation. This will be done through a simple self-audit program realized by best practice sustainability engagement and practices.

Employees are self-selected and trained by Hanley Sustainability Institute staff on converting to Green Office practices. These peer educators then work with their respective offices to complete a self-audit and to share and implement best practices. Based on the completion of the checklist, offices receive a Green Office Certification with progressive levels of achievement. All participants are asked to sign a sustainability pledge, which counts towards the certification.

This project started in the Spring of 2017.

A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:

The Hanley Sustainability Institute supports the Green Office Initiative (staff and students) by recruiting participating offices and then working with the administrative staff of participating offices to review requirements and resources available to become a certified green office on campus. Participating offices and associated administrative staff are recruited initially with email invitation and subsequently followed up by an in person meeting by HSI student or staff to review green office resources.

A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:

HSI students leaders and or staff meet with administrative staff of participating offices in one-on-one meetings to orient them to the process of green office certification on campus and review the resources available to support their outreach to fellow employees within their department or administrative office. All green office staff contacts are provided access to shared documents and receive updates on any resources and certification procedures and progress from HSI.

A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):

The Hanley Sustainability Institute supports the Green Office Initiative through the Sustainability Reps and Leaders program, which is supervised by an administrative staff member (Dir. of Student Engagement) and through support of a student sustainability leader. HSI also provides the green office certification incentives to successful offices (certificates, visibility in campus communications, office receptacles).
