A brief description of the certificate program:

Two certificate programs at DU offer by the Graduate School of Social Work fit the definition related social sustainability. They include continuing education certificates in Animals and Human Health: A Certificate in Animal-Assisted Therapy, Activities, and Learning and Adoption Competent Practice.

Animal-assisted therapy, activities and learning demonstrate how the human-animal bond can bring about deep and lasting social, emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual and psychological changes.

Adoption Competent Practice Certification program emphasizes the development of a framework for understanding the complexity of being a child or adult in a family by adoption, and the therapeutic skills that enable practitioners to work at the individual, couple, group and family levels of clinical practice.

Using the definitions for sustainability-related and sustainability-focused courses from the curriculum and research section of this report the continuing education courses offered through the programs in University College (the Enrichment Program and the Osher Life-long Learning Institute), the Graduate Tax Program, and the Graduate School of Social Work were reviewed. Of the 280 offered courses, 27 were determined to be sustainability-related and 6 were determined to be sustainability-focused.
