A brief description of the pre-consumer food waste composting program:

In June of 2010 Food Services began a pre-consumer waste composting project with the Office of Sustainability, Bio-Conversion Center and the Physical Plant. Currently all pre-consumer food waste from 2 UGA dining halls is being collected and taken to our Bio-Conversion Center where it is composted and turned into soil which is then reused for campus plantings. In 2014, dining services eliminated the use of single-use plastics from their waste stream. This change allows UGA to compost 100% of its food waste from all dining halls.
