Materials recycled, composted, reused, donated, re-sold, or otherwise diverted :
2,462 Tons

Materials disposed in a solid waste landfill or incinerator :
4,292 Tons

A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:

UGA is actively involved in waste reduction and recycling on campus.

A decrease in landfill tonnage and increase in recycling results in cost avoidance and annual income. The campus recycling rate for FY2010 was 41%. Current efforts include installation of additional recycling bins throughout the campus. All waste reduction efforts on campus are supported by the Physical Plant Division Services Department.

Other waste reduction efforts include a robust composting operation that converts landscape debris into useful soil and mulch that is incorporated into the UGA campus. In 2008, a construction and demolition waste recycling program was implemented to divert from the ACC landfill; since its establishment an average of 78% of construction debris from major capital improvement projects has been recycled into gravel and mulch for reuse on other campus construction sites.
