Yes

Name of the campaign:
Green Cup

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:

Green Cup is an energy and water reduction competition between UGA's Hill Community Residence Halls. Residence halls receive points each day for four weeks. These points reflect energy and water use compared to the three prior years’ totals during the same time period and for the same residence hall. A third factor considers student participation in up to five educational programs facilitated by University Housing staff and the residence hall community councils. Points were assigned based on 1) most electricity saved, 2) least water used, and 3) most participation in contest events including the kickoff party, two events hosted by the community councils, and a final celebration.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Green Cup:

In 2014, Lipscomb Hall saved the most electricity with an average savings of 13.28% less energy used per day. Hill Hall cut back on water use the most by using an average of 27.93 gallons per student per day. No event participation data could be found for this year. Between electricity and water point totals, Mell Hall earned the most points by finishing 2nd for both categories.

In 2015, Lipscomb Hall consumed the least amount of electricity, saving an average of 20.62% compared to years past. Hill Hall used the least amount of water by averaging 24.79 gallons used per student per day. The Church-Hill-Boggs halls recorded more participation than Lipscomb and Mell. Mell Hall won the 2015 Green Cup by receiving the most overall points for finishing 2nd in both water and electricity savings.

In 2016, Lipscomb Hall saved the most electricity, by saving an average of 18.36% and an average usage of 6.90 kW per student per day. Hill Hall saved the most water by averaging 26.35 gallons per student per day. Lipscomb Hall had the most event participation with 43 sign-ins. After all points were tallied Hill Hall received the most points by saving the most water and placing 3rd in electricity savings, earning Hill Hall the 2016 Green Cup.

Dawgs Ditch the Dumpster and Donate is an end of the year move-out donation drive and landfill diversion event. We collect unwanted items from residents and donate those items to local and regional organizations.

Residents are provided with convenient donation areas at each residence hall from for approximately ten days at the end of the spring semester to leave unwanted items. During Dawgs Ditch the Dumpster and Donate, all items left in a donation area will be diverted from the landfill and given to local and regional organizations in need.

Recyclemania

RecycleMania is an 8 week competition between university recycling programs to promote waste reduction on their campus and in the surrounding communities. During the competition UGA reports the weekly tonnages of landfill waste, recycling and compost generated by the university. This serves as a benchmark for improvement as well as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of waste reduction.
