It is the policy of the university to compensate employees fairly without regard to age, gender, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, military status or sexual orientation and to comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting employee compensation.

To ensure internal consistency and external competitiveness in pay and enhance the university’s ability to attract, retain, and motivate qualified employees the University of Houston uses pay grade structures to establish compensation limits for jobs. Hiring employees below the minimum of the pay range is contrary to university policy and is not permitted.

Our compensation guidelines and policies are developed in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, and the biennial General Appropriations Act.
