The green building guidelines or policies:

This project followed the LEED for Interiors but due to the dismissal of the design team it was not certified. It has the potential to receive LEED Platinum

Do the green building guidelines or policies cover the following?:
Yes or No
Impacts on the surrounding site (e.g. guidelines to reuse previously developed land, protect environmentally sensitive areas, and otherwise minimize site impacts) Yes
Energy consumption (e.g. policies requiring a minimum level of energy efficiency for buildings and their systems) Yes
Building-level energy metering Yes
Use of environmentally preferable materials (e.g. guidelines to minimize the life cycle impacts associated with building materials) Yes
Indoor environmental quality (i.e. guidelines to protect the health and comfort of building occupants) Yes
Water consumption (e.g. requiring minimum standards of efficiency for indoor and outdoor water use) Yes
Building-level water metering Yes

A brief description of the green building guidelines or policies and/or a list or sample of buildings covered:

There are numerous amendments to the UIC building Standards to include sustainable design elements including regulatory requirements updates in Division 1; sustainable site development requirements in Division 2; sustainable materials in Divisions 6, 7, 9, 11, and 34; water reduction suggestions in Divisions 22 and 32; energy reducing techniques in Divisions 8, 23, and 26; sustainable landscaping requirements in Divisions 31 and 32. The amendments also include new section requirements for waste reduction during construction, integrated design, and commissioning.

A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:

The Office of Capital Planning and Project Management (CPPM) is responsible for all major renovations and new construction. They are responsible for implementing the policy during any construction projects. The Office of Sustainability tracks and reports on sustainability initiatives and will coordinate with CPPM to ensure that compliance is maintained.
The University of Illinois has directed that all new construction projects and major
renovations meet LEED silver. This is in line with the Green Building Guidelines for State
Construction which have been mandated for all new state-funded building construction
and major renovations of existing state-owned facilities. Therefore, future new
construction, remodeling, and renovation projects of $5 million or greater will be
LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certified. New
construction, remodeling, and renovations totally less than $5 million should comply
with the LEED® Silver requirements for the appropriate LEED category to the greatest
extent practicable. Therefore, buildings will be constructed to be significantly more
energy efficient than the current standards and may utilize renewable energy.
For Projects $5,000,000 and over the project will be registered with the USGBC and
the A/E will pursue at a minimum LEED Silver Certification by the USGBC
For Projects that are less than $5,000,000 the A/E will design to LEED Silver Standards
to the greatest extent possible and will submit the LEED Checklist, at
Design Development, 50% Construction Documents, 100% construction documents,
and at the end of construction, demonstrating the LEED points that would have been
obtained if the project had been registered with the USGBC.
