A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to staff:

The University of Iowa and the Office of Sustainability offer a number of professional development workshops and trainings, leveraging the EcoHawks program throughout the academic year. Approximately 1% of staff participate in the EcoHawks training program. Additionally, the Department of Facilities Management has mandated annual sustainability training and strongly encourages employees to find opportunities for sustainability process improvement in their jobs, with 4% of all employees are under the facilities Management umbrella. Additional sustainability training is done on an individual basis and could not be accurately measured for purposes of the credit.


A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution(e.g. through payment, reimbursement, or subsidy):

The University Colleges each administer fellowships, grants, and internships to financially support staff to meet their professional development goals. For example, staff members of the Office of Sustainability have received funding to attend national events such as Net Impact Sustainability Conference.

UI Learning and Development, a unit of Organizational Effectiveness, provides professional development services and training opportunities for individuals and regional corporate entities.

For University staff and faculty, there are many learning opportunities that will support professional development and growth and are aligned with UI core values of Excellence, Learning, Community, Diversity, Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility. Classroom instruction is offered on leadership issues for managers, frontline supervisors, human resource professionals, and office professionals.
