Does the institution's physical campus plan include sustainability at a high level?:
Yes

A brief description of how the physical campus plan or amendment includes sustainability:

All five of the "significant ideas" discussed in the 1997 Campus Master Plan are directly related to sustainability: 1) The revitalization of Jayhawk Boulevard (honoring the traditional pedestrian orientation of the boulevard, reducing the overall width of pavement to gain pedestrian, waiting, and green space, and committing a portion of the boulevard for the use of bicyclists), 2) The evolution of campus access to accommodate growth (integrating accessible transit and parking systems), 3) The beautification of major campus entry points (includes identification of 15th Street east of Iowa as a pedestrian campus), 4) Site development for main and west campuses (evaluating development potential by reference to site planning principles), and 5) Infrastructure (maintenance, replacement and repair of existing systems), along with the continuation of the principle established in the 1973 plan to site those activities integral to the day-to-day needs of students, faculty and staff within the core campus. The plan addresses environmental issues calling for a transportation system that includes bicycles, buses, shuttles, and single-occupancy vehicles, maintenance of open and green space, clustering buildings, pursuing technologies and management methods that minimize use of energy and water resources, and reinvested savings from decreased energy utilization in additional energy-saving measures.
