A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

The Sustainable Agriculture undergraduate program offers an apprenticeship, open to all students, working with its Community Supported Agriculture program. Students work on the farm and help with the logistics of the CSA. The principles of sustainability are integrated into every facet of this program.

The College of Agriculture offers international immersion courses focused on sustainability. Every two-three years, a three week sustainable agriculture/agro eco systems to Indonesia is offered. A graduate course (Advanced Concepts in Sustainable Crop Production, Insights from Nicaragua) was offered in Spring, 2015 and will be repeated every two years.

There are also several courses within the University of Kentucky which offer students the chance to experience Robinson Forest, a multi-thousand acre tract of land owned by the university, in a variety of sustainability contexts. Two of these courses include NRC 320, "Field Experience in Data Collection Techniques", and ENG/ENS 401, "Summer Environmental Writing Program". http://www.uky.edu/AS/English/courses/sewp/

Since our first STARS report, UK has added “living-learning” dorms. The Greenhouse is a living-learning community that engages students in learning about many aspects of the local environment, all in the context of sustainability, by bringing together students and faculty interested in understanding and actively supporting the development of a healthy environment for all residents. Students will get to know Lexington from the bottom up to understand how the environment shapes the human community, and vice versa.

The Greenhouse encourages students to extend their classroom learning through community engagement with organizations committed to developing a sustainable Lexington. Join our tight-knit group with other like-minded students. You will spend time together in class, held in your residence hall, and in program-specific activities in the residence hall and on field trips. http://greenhouse.as.uky.edu/about-greenhouse
