A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution, including how each program addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability:

Churchill, Manitoba Travel Study Course (12 days)
This course is an intensive introduction to the ecology and cultures of the sub-arctic. Students will participate in interdisciplinary research with direct access to the unique historical, cultural and ecological setting of coastal Manitoba near the town of Churchill. Topics such as humans as part of the ecosystem, vegetation dynamics, protected areas, ecotourism and environmental change form the curriculum. Students spend time near the town of Churchill, Manitoba engaging with local Aboriginal elders, learning about the recent cultural history of displaced people, the Dene. The students will also have the opportunity to engage with the eco-tourism industry by going beluga whale watching. The students will then fly by helicopter to a research station in Wapusk national park, where they stay in a fenced compound in the polar bear summer habitat. Research in Wapusk and Churchill based on the student’s interest is undertaken and results presented to Parks Canada and the public.
