A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

The University of Manitoba contracted the Green Action Centre to plan, design and deliver a comprehensive commuting survey open to all students, faculty, employees and other non-University employees working at facilities on campus. The online survey went live January 18th and closed February 6, 2016 with the link circulated via email to all faculty and staff, through weekly e-news to students, and via hard copy to participating non-university offices. The survey was promoted through a wide variety of sources including, but not limited to, radio notifications, e-news, social media and printed posters. The survey reached 4384 respondents which is approximately 11% of the University community. Students were approximately 39%, Employees 37%, Faculty 16% and non-university employees 8%.

The second of the series of surveys was completed during the Winter 2018 term. The survey received over 7000 respondents. Data is currently being reviewed by the Green Action Centre.
