A brief description of the campus climate assessment(s) :

UMass Lowell is currently in the process of launching a number of focus groups in early Spring 2015 to assess campus culture and climate beginning with the students first. This is a part of the larger campus initiative and pillar subcommittee - Global Engagement & Inclusive Culture.

In the Division of Student Affairs and University Events, an assessment was conducted October 2014 to ascertain attitudes, perceptions and experiences of the staff on climate and culture, specifically in regards to equity & inclusion. An 80% survey response rate was noted. From the responses, the SA Equity & Inclusion Strategic Infusion Team has developed a list of divisional priorities and goals for the upcoming year to address.

UMass Lowell 2020: A Strategic Plan for the Next Decade, includes goals for fostering an inclusive campus community including a goal to increase the diversity of students, faculty and staff from underrepresented groups. Each year UMass Lowell issues a Report Card to track and evaluate indicators vital to the success of the strategic plan. The Report Card tracks metrics for Global Engagement and Fostering Inclusion which include international undergraduate/graduate students and underrepresented populations of students. These metrics are assessed annually and used to direct the activities of the Global Engagement and Fostering Inclusion Committee of the Strategic Planning Commission.

UMass Lowell informally considers the diversity of governance committees and subcommittees when establishing these groups, however a formal assessment of access has not been made. Much of the governance on-campus includes UMass System-level and Collective Bargaining Groups for which UMass Lowell has no role in assigning or establishing positions.
