A brief summary of the climate plan’s long-term goals:

Climate Action Plan: Guiding Principle is "We will pursue energy efficiency and fiscally-responsible energy sourcing strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions toward long-term carbon neutrality. Goals for 2025 are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (scopes 1 & 2) by 25% below 2006 levels and also to decrease carbon intensity of passenger trips on University of Michigan transportation options by 30% below 2006 levels."


A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:

We have many smaller "action" goals that will help us attain our larger goal. These include: small renovation building projects (costing less than $10 million), high energy demand equipment replacement, cost-benefit analysis for building upgrade packages, Planet Blue Operations Teams, biomass sourcing, Syngas fuel source feasibility studies, Biomass for North Campus, Geothermal for North Campus, Geothermal pilot project at the Central Power Plant & Stadium, parking lot photovoltaics, PV rooftop demonstration, solar thermal (pre-heat) Power Center, solar thermal (DHW boost), wind turbines, renewable energy credits (RECs), natural gas turbines at central power plant, hybrid passenger vehicles, hybrid campus buses, bicycles, Ann Arbor connector/rail, bus ridership increase, optimize bus routes, AATA, University of Michigan transportation route pilot, optimize courier service, no idling policy & expanding existing alternate transportation options.
