MU employs LCCA when procuring equipment and systems when energy use and/or maintenance will be a significant cost of ownership. For example, this methodology was used we purchased the biomass boiler, both during the study phase when evaluating boiler options and when we bid the biomass boiler. These have been accomplished in request for bid formats by evaluating the total cost and using points based request for proposal formats. The decision process of when to procure equipment in this manner is not clearly defined, however generally any time we’re buying equipment where energy use and operational cost will be a significant factor we employ LCCA.

All routinely used cleaning chemicals (including general purpose cleaners, floor cleaners, bathroom cleaners, glass cleaners and carpet cleaners but not including disinfectant cleaners) shall be certified by either Green Seal or Design for the Environment (DfE) as environmentally preferable cleaning products for institutional use.

University of Missouri Construction Planning, Design and Contract Document contains guidelines for design-bid-build delivery method. Details are under Section 2.1.3.6 for Energy and Sustainability which state "Minimum energy conservation requirements are specified in this section. Facility designs should also include energy conservation features beyond what is required by energy conservation standards where those features can be economically justified from a life cycle cost standpoint. Principal considerations are first cost, operational cost, maintenance cost, climatic
conditions, site configuration, building orientation, building functional arrangement, building envelope, and mechanical systems as applicable to minimize the use of fossil fuels." Additional details are provided in following subsections.
