The Université de Montréal has at its disposal municipal and regional platforms in order to share its concerns about sustainability.
- The University is part of the Sustainability Partner Network of Montreal and participation in the Sustainable Development Plan for Montreal 2015-2020 (main issues: biodiversity and the standards in construction building).
- The University particpates actively in the group Les Amis de la montagne (Friends of the Mountain), dedicated to the preservation of Mount Royal, where the University's main campus is located (main issue: biodiversity).

- The institution participates in the implementation of the Conservation Plan of the Heritage Site of Mount Royal launched by the Cultural Council of Quebec Heritage.
- The University actively participated in consultations for the new metropolitan plan (2015-2020) for waste management by the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM, regional) and submitted a brief (main issues: waste minimization and circular economy).

The Université de Montréal participated in the Climate Change initiative, a grouping of non-governmental civil actors engaged in the fight against climate change. The group met for the first time in September 2016 and agreed with the commitment made by the nations at the COP21 in Paris (main issues: urban agriculture and farming).
During the event, the sustainability advisor, Stéphane Béranger, made a presentation: "Dreaming and implementing urban agriculture: a co-creation to fight against climate change"
