A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):

We received the number of research faculty/staff, and departments from the UNL Office of Research and Economic Development. In order to find those faculty/staff, and departments involved in sustainability research, we reached out to the Office of Sponsored Programs and received a list of all of the faculty and staff that have received grants during fiscal year 2016-2017. Then we used a selection of keywords to narrow down the list to ones that included sustainability in their research. Next we deleted researcher duplicates so that each researcher was only on the list once. This subset included the faculty name, department, and project title that was associated with the grant. This list included 881 items, then we went through the list one-by-one and took out any projects that did not relate to sustainability (that were not removed using the keyword search.) Our final number was 625. The keywords that we used in our initial search are: ecology, environment, sustainability, natural resources, resilience, carbon, climate, social justice, diversity, land, air, water, drought, recycle, agriculture, conservation, biology, food, energy, nature, plants, soil, solar, wind, planning, financial, equity, engagement, efficiency, eco-system, atmosphere, atmospheric science, behavior, biodiversity, biomimicry, LEED, community, life, life-cycle, and resources.
