A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

The Green Office program is composed of volunteer UNH employees. Members meet each semester and work with Sustainability Institute staff throughout the year to learn about the University's sustainability initiatives and ways to implement practices within their own departments to assist in meetings these goals.

New Green Offices schedule an introductory meeting with a representative from the Sustainability Institute to assess opportunities and challenges unique to the team’s building and department, and to provide leaders with an overview of how the Green Office program works. They will also suggest a preliminary Green Office meeting with other departmental staff in order to convey the benefits and reasons for participating.


A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:

The goal of recruitment for the Green Office Program is to have at least one representative from each academic and/or administrative department across campus. Any staff/faculty member may join the network if they demonstrate a continued commitment to making their workplace more sustainable and engaging their colleagues in the University's broader sustainability initiatives. All Green Office Program members are required to complete UNH's online Sustainability Learning Module.


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:

Staff who elect to participate in the Green Office Program receive training and support from Sustainability Institute staff and interns. They have an initial consultation, progress meetings, and final audits prior to receiving a certification. Throughout the process, they have access to resources to assist them in creating a green office (flyers and videos) as well as resources to help them promote and educate their peers regarding sustainability.


A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):

The program is facilitated by the Sustainability Institute with assistance from Cooperative Extension, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and the University Instrumentation Center.
