A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the committee(s), office(s), and/or officer(s) during the previous three years:

The university elevated both the officer and committee during 2013. Previously, there was a sustainability coordinator in Facilities Management and an Environmental Sustainability Committee, which had produced the universities first Campus Sustainability Plan (2010) and Climate Action Plan (2012). During 2013 and 2014, the first University Sustainability Officer was hired, an executive committee was assembled to focus on implementation and assessment of these plans, and the budget for their activities was tripled. Major accomplishment include: analyzing relevant plans to establish a single set of best practices that will be instituted and assessed, and completing this first AASHE STARS report.

Sustainability Executive Committee and has a full-time University Sustainability Officer. They cover the entire university with a charge to cover operations, teaching, research, and outreach.

The Executive Committee includes students, faculty, staff and administrators with the following titles: University Sustainability Officer, Senior Associate Provost, Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities, Executive Director of University Communications, Director of Facilities Planning, Director of the Infrastructure, Design, Environment and Sustainability Center, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Professor of Architecture, Associate Athletic Director for Business, Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life, Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Transportation Manager, Sustainability Director for Student Government, and Student Chair of the Charlotte Green Initiative.
