A brief description of the mechanisms through which students have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

The UNC Charlotte Student Government Association (SGA) provides students an outlet to serve on an executive board that acts as the voice of the student body. Student representatives apply for an At-Large seat or a college-based seat, with the latter subject to the Apportionment Act. All students are entitled to vote in the Student Body elections and to participate.

Yes

The elected President of the Student Government Association is an ex officio member of the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees.

The elected study government president is a voting member of the Board of Trustees. Student representatives also appointed to standing committees such as the Sustainability Executive Committee, and Campus Safety and Security Committee, as well as special project committees (e.g. Belk Plaza Design Committee) and task forces (Traffic Congestion Task Force).


Do all staff, regardless of type or status, have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies (through direct participation or the election of representatives)?:
Yes

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all staff have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

The UNC Charlotte Staff Council is delegated, by the Chancellor, the authority and responsibility to bring to the attention of the administration matters of general staff concern. The Staff Council consists of full-time or part-time employees who do not hold faculty rank. Any member of the staff may vote in the general election of area representatives and Staff Council Executive Board officers.

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all faculty (including adjunct faculty) have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

The Faculty Council is a policy making and consultative body, responsible for the quality of instruction and scholarship at the University as outlined by the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina. The Faculty Council and is comprised of one elected voting member from each academic unit. Nominations are provided by faculty members for any of the following openings. Self nominations are also accepted. Full-time faculty at the rank of lecturer or above are allowed to vote in elections.

The Faculty Council is charged with the responsibility for making policy decisions regarding the curriculum, academic standards, and the allocation of internal research funds. In the past 3 years the Faculty Council approved new policies for: language requirements for international undergraduate student admissions; new standards to define credit hours; establishing a BA in Environmental Studies; establishing defintions for major, minor, concentration and certificate.
