A brief description of when and why the building energy consumption baseline was adopted:

This was the year prior to the arrival of the Energy Manager.

A brief description of any building temperature standards employed by the institution:

We follow the University of North Carolina recommended standard of Occupied heating at 68 to 70 degrees, cooling at 75 to 77 degrees and Unoccupied at 80 -82 degrees for cooling and 60-62 degrees for heating.

A brief description of any light emitting diode (LED) lighting employed by the institution:

We are currently installing LED lighting in about 50 to 55% of our campus and are about 70% complete on the project.

A brief description of any occupancy and/or vacancy sensors employed by the institution:

We have lighting occupancy sensors in many of our buildings in the hallways and some classrooms and offices. We also have occupancy sensors in about three of our largest buildings for HVAC.

A brief description of any passive solar heating employed by the institution:

None at this time. Still looking for the right candidate.

A brief description of any ground-source heat pumps employed by the institution:

None at this time.

A brief description of any cogeneration technologies employed by the institution:

None on campus.

A brief description of any building recommissioning or retrofit program employed by the institution:

We have recently (within the last 15 months complete re-commissioning in four of our largest buildings.

A brief description of any energy metering and management systems employed by the institution:

We currently have all buildings with some type of sub-meter for electricity (mostly EMON) and most of our buildings have sub-meters for gas. We can manage our electrical and gas usage on a real time basis. We also have a Delta Energy Management System that controls 95% of our campus spaces.

A brief description of the institution's program to replace energy-consuming appliances, equipment and systems with high efficiency alternatives:

UNCP is currently changing the campus' purchasing guidelines that require ENERGY STAR
appliances and EPEAT electronics.

A brief description of any energy-efficient landscape design initiatives employed by the institution:

UNCP is developing a tree care plan with recommended plant and tree list that requires native or highly adaptive drought tolerant species.

A brief description of any vending machine sensors, lightless machines, or LED-lit machines employed by the institution:

We did a Performance Contract with Siemens two years ago that included vending machines in four of our largest buildings.

A brief description of other energy conservation and efficiency initiatives employed by the institution:

In the past year we have installed four electric car charging stations that are solar powered, and eighteen solar powered emergency stations all over campus. We have also replaced three chillers and nine boilers with higher efficiency models in the past two years. We have also installed a complete energy management system in the last building on campus not to have one. Over the past two years we have been training students, faculty and staff how to conserve energy through a human behavior program to include teaching freshmen through their Freshmen Seminar classes. We have changed our standard for new buildings being built on campus to a minimum of LEED Silver and have changed our buying practices and standards as well.
