A brief description of the mechanisms through which students have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

There are many different committees on campus, but we will discuss the Sustainability Council, which is the recommending body to the Chancellor and Cabinet on all matters relating to sustainability.

1. Student Government Association (SGA) President serves on the campus' Sustainability Council
2. Student President of the Greener Coalition (student club) serves on the Sustainability Council
Both of these are elected campus positions.

Is there at least one student representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative student body or organization?:

Yes

Do students have a formal role in decision-making in regard to the following?:

Student roles include: President of the Greener Coalition and President of SGA.

Since establishment of the Sustainability Council in 2014, the following has been accomplished by this Council who includes the Sustainability Office and Energy Management Office and several others (all campus populations are represented which includes students, faculty and staff):
-Signed ACUPCC
-Established Food Recovery Network Chapter
-Participating in the NC 10% Campaign
-Made LEED Silver, Two Green Globes or equivalent the minimum standard for all new construction and major renovations
-Updating campus' purchasing policy now to require ENERGY STAR and EPEAT appliances and electronics and other sustainable BMPs
-Created and hired Sustainability Coordinator to assist Sustainability Director
-Supported students with creation of a Sustainability Green Fee
-Applied for Tree Campus USA status (which included creation of the campus' Tree Care Plan; Recommended Plant and Tree List)
-Become a Partner with USDOE's Workplace Charging Challenge
-Kicked off the campus; Strategic Sustainability Planning process, to complete in 2016
-Submitted the campus' first interdisciplinary Minor is Sustainability to Academic Affairs for approval
-Completed the campus' first baseline greenhouse gas inventory (2013) and 2014; 2015 is in progress now
-Completed second energy savings performance contract
-Installed 4kW's of solar PV
-Installed 4 PEV charging stations
-Installed one off-grid solar smart table
-Become a pickup/drop-off site for CSA
And so on....

1. Staff Council Chair, serves on the Sustainability Council and this is an elected campus position.
2. Several other staff positions serve on the Sustainability Council such as the Sustainability Director, Sustainability Coordinator, University Architect, etc.

Is there at least one non-supervisory staff representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative staff body or organization?:

Yes

1. Staff Council Chair, serves on the Sustainability Council and this is an elected campus position.

A brief description of the mechanisms through which all faculty (including adjunct faculty) have an avenue to participate in one or more governance bodies:

1. Co-Chair of the Sustainability Council is reserved for a faculty member. This position is filled by recommendation from the Provost and the Academic Affairs Department.
2. Faculty Senate Chair is a position on the Sustainability Council and it is an elected campus position.
3. Several other faculty positions are represented on the Sustainability Council such as Faculty Advisor for the Greener Coalition, Dean of Graduate Studies, etc.

Is there at least one teaching or research faculty representative on the institution’s governing body who was elected by peers or appointed by a representative faculty body or organization?:

Yes

1. Co-Chair of the Sustainability Council is reserved for a faculty member. This position is filled by recommendation from the Provost and the Academic Affairs Department; this could be filled by a faculty member in a teaching or research position.
2. Dean of Graduate Studies and Research is a dedicated position on the campus' Sustainability Council.
