A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

The University of North Texas strives to reduce hazardous waste through procedures and guidelines outlined in its Hazardous Waste Management Guide. Some of the steps outlined in the guide include inventorying of chemicals, using recycled chemicals and substituting non-hazardous or less hazardous materials for commonly used chemicals.


A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

UNT safely disposes hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste in accordance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. UNT's Risk Management Services determines the degree of hazard and the appropriate disposal route. Throughout this process, the university is required to keep records that account for hazardous wastes "from cradle to grave."

UNT's Office of Risk Management handles the disposal of all hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste on campus. Risk Management has policies in place to ensure the disposal of such chemicals is done in a responsible and safe manner.
