A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):

Green Residence Assistants (RA) are selected through a comprehensive interview process completed with input from the Residence Life Manager and the Sustainability Manager. Green RA candidates are selected based on their work experience, academic interest, co-curricular interests and genuine interest in sustainability issues.

Green RA candidates submit a cover letter and resume outlining pertinent experience and are short listed to phone interviews. Phone interview candidates were asked questions regarding their student leadership experience, passion for sustainability issues and initial ideas for green programming in residence.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

Green RA’s receive 1-week of fall training in August and 1-weekend of winter training along with the rest of the Residence Life Team. Each Green RA is provided with hands on training and support from the Residence Life Coorinator and the Sustainability Manager. Green RA's have been invited to attend workshops and training sessions on topics such as Community Based Social Marketing (fostering sustainable behaviour).

A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

The Green Residence Assistant (RA) Program was established in 2010 through a $10,000 seed grant provided by the UNBC Green Fund. This initial funding provided the resources to hire two part-time Green RA's (one per residence building) and invest in recycling infrastructure in the apartment suites. The program will expand during the 2011-2012 academic year to include two full-time Green RA's providing more sustianability resources and programming for students living on campus.

The Green RA Program is supported by UNBC staff and other financial resources including the following:
- Green RA's meet weekly with other Residence Assistants and bi-weekly with the Residence Life Coordinator
- Green RA’s receive subsidized housing costs in lieu of salary
- Each Green RA receives a $500.00 annual programming budget for supplies and incentive prizes
- The Housing and Residence Life office supports the annual cost of training the Green RA's (approximately $545.00)
