A brief description of the student group:

Students for a Green University (SGU) is a campus group at UNBC composed of students interested in taking action environmental issues. The club consists of about 25 active members, who attend weekly meetings to plan and organize events and actions on and off campus. In addition to this group of committed students, SGU sends weekly update emails out to a mailing list of over 150 people at UNBC regarding SGU’s actions, as well as related events on campus and in Prince George. The club is recognized by the Northern Undergraduate Student Society, and currently has three Executive members; President, Vice President, and Treasurer. These three individuals organize and manage SGU funds and correspondence, although the majority of event planning is done by smaller Working Groups. Each Working Group is led by an SGU member, and plan events such as Bike-Blended Smoothie Sales, documentary screenings, tours and activities at various ‘green’ locations on campus, social events, and ongoing campaigns such as banning the sale of Bottled Water on campus. SGU members also participate in conferences and workshops to learn more about sustainability and environmental activism. The club was established in 2008, and has grown consistently over the years. SGU aims to educate, inspire, and motivate UNBC students, staff and faculty to make steps in their everyday life to reduce their environmental impact.
