A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

In the fall of 2012 the Office of Sustainability partnered with Building Services, Facilities Design and Operations, and the Office of Public Affairs to donate 227 mattresses to eight local non-profit agencies. This was part of a new campus-wide mattress replacement program.
The mattresses went to Hope Ministries, the YWCA, Church Lady and Friends Outreach Ministries, AIDS Ministries, Mishawaka Food Pantry, Inc., Life Treatment Center, Boy Scouts of America and St. Vincent de Paul. Some agencies distribute to people who need them, some use them as part of their own residential services.
This program save over 17,000 pounds of waste from the landfill and over $1,500 in recycling costs to the University.
