Yes

Name of the campaign:
Dorm Energy Competition

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:

The spring energy competition is held to see which residence hall can reduce their energy consumption the most. Every residence hall was competing against one another for three weeks. Each week had a different competition. The 1st week we pair up brother and sister dorms. the 2nd week we pitted rivals against on another to see who could reduce the most. The third week was a clean slate free for all. There were weekly winners and an overall champion. Students are able to track their dorm's progress and energy usage on a real-time energy dashboard, maintained by the Office of Sustainability. The dashboard lists monthly energy usage and allows for comparison among the dorms on the month to month basis. It also tracks overall energy savings over time.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

This year that resulted in a savings of 19,182 kilowatt hours of electricity overall, or roughly four and a half tons of CO2 emissions. The winning dorm reduced their energy usage by 15.5% during the three week competition.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Comprehensive Sustainability Strategy

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):

The University put together small working groups consisting of faculty, staff and students in order to work together on a document containing all of the sustainability goals and metrics for the university.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

This has set concrete targets for sustainability. In order to meet these goals the university installed three geothermal fields. When completed, these three systems together will have the capacity to reduce Notre Dame's carbon dioxide emissions by 11,803 tons. That's an 8% drop compared to fiscal year 2016 and is the equivalent of taking almost a thousand cars off the road each year. Also, all new construction is utilizing LEED principles to reduce energy consumption.
