A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

The Sustainable Development Committee composed of campus community members (students, support staff, teaching staff) meet regularly to discuss the Campus Sustainability plan and how to best implement the targets proposed within the plan.


A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

Firstly, the University of Ottawa is aiming for a reduction of 35% of greenhouse gas by 2015 while using 2005 as a base year. Furthermore, the institution wishes to implement a policy that requires that all new buildings and retrofits meet a minimum of LEED silver certification, reduce energy consumption by 2% annually in spite of growth. The University is also aiming to achieve a recycling diversion rate of 60% of all waste on campus, a transportation modal split of 85% car-free for the campus community, as well as reduce domestic water consumption by 2% annually.


A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

The Physical Resources Service engineer (environment and energy) and mechanical electrical technologist publish an emissions management table yearly which includes energy and water consumption as well as emissions. Furthermore, the sustainable transportation service publishes a transportation modal split every two years.
