The University of Ottawa regularly lobbies the municipal government to implement sustainability policies and programs.
In 2009 and again in 2010 the University lobbied the City of Ottawa to implement a U-pass for students. This resulted in the adoption of the program.
Since 2009, the University has been part of the “Ontario Universities Going Greener” coalition organized by the Council of Ontario Universities (COU). This group pushes industry and government to look at sustainability solutions based on research done at academic institutions.
The University of Ottawa has worked with the City of Ottawa to reduce the parking requirements laid out in the City bylaw. The University advocates for less parking when a successful transit program is in place.

This policy is currently under review.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Policy is to ensure that the University fulfils its legal obligations for the protection of the environment, through the appropriate assignment of responsibilities throughout the University, and establishment of directives, procedures and standards.
This Policy should be read in conjunction with Policy 77 (Occupational Health and Safety Policy) and72 (Environmental Policy).
