A brief description of when and why the workplace health and safety baseline was adopted:

The U of R only recently began generating accurate data related to workplace health and safety. The accuracy of the data is questionable prior to 2010. Starting in 2012, a common data set was established that was used in 2013 and continues into 2014.


A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives:

The U of R Health and Safety Management system incorporates the following main components:

1. Safety training for students, faculty and staff (i.e. wet lab safety, fall protection, radiation safety, WHMIS, TDG, fire extinguisher use, use of respirators)
2. Active Occupational Health and safety committees
3. Emergency preparedness program
4. Occupational hygiene services
5. Influenza immunizations
6. EFAP programs
7. Fire safety inspections
8. Risk assessment
