A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:
The University of San Diego has created awareness around alternative modes of transportation for students and faculty to rely on more sustainable modes of transport. As part of the initiative to support alternative fuel and power technology, the Office of Sustainability encourages more electric vehicles along with hybrid vehicle purchases to reduce the carbon footprint of the University within the motorized fleet. Signage is displayed across campus to raise awareness among campus fleet users regarding the right ways of using the fleet and increasing efficiency of vehicles. The signage initiative speaks about multiple ways of increasing mileage such as low idling, ensuring proper replacement of spark plugs and fuel caps.
