Has the institution advocated for federal, state, and/or local public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, bills, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

The university advocates sustainability in multiple ways and on various levels. Our students are active in lobbying on the state level through our partnership with the SC Conservation Voters (SCCV). SCCV trains students on how to lobby effectively and escorts them to the State House to speak with state leaders on sustainability issues. Students also participate at PowerShift in DC each year as well as the Palmetto Environmental Action Coalition and the Southeastern Student Renewable Energy Network. The President regularly includes sustainability in his speeches and announcements as well as promoting the green economy and green jobs through his board position with Engenuity SC. The university provides the Learning Center free of charge to most groups hosting educational sessions and meetings on sustainability issues and also hosts a public series featuring environmental activists throughout the year. Other events include the conferences put on by the university addressing specific issues and featuring local and state leaders. Links to some of the recent speeches or events are below:
